The Latin American Ensemble is
dedicated to the study and performance of music from Latin America. The
LAE consists of approximately 12 talented musicians playing trumpet,
trombone, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, keyboard, bass, violin,
Timbales, Congas, and vocals. The students of the LAE play the music of
the Legends of Latin music, including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Willie
Colon, Ruben Blades, Fania All-Stars, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Luis
Miguel, Gloria Estefan, La India, Arsenio Rodriguez, Machito, Isaac
Delgado, Irakere, Los Van Van, Jimmy Bosch, and others.
The LAE has achieved local and national
recognition as one of a few public school Salsa Orchestras in the
United States. Highlighted performances include the World Salsa
Congress in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the National Puerto Rican Day 116th
St. Festival in New York City, the Latin Grammy Street Party in
Houston, the San Jose Jazz Festival in California, Gloria Estefan's
Bongos Cuban Cafe in Orlando, the 75th LULAC National Convention in San
Antonio, the North Texas Latino Festival in Fort Worth, the Mundo
Latino Exhibit at the State Fair of Texas, the Katrina Relief Concert
at the Hard Rock Cafe, the Grand Opening of the Latino Cultural Center
in Dallas, and many local events, conferences, receptions.

The LAE frequently performs for DISD
elementary and middle schools in an effort to reach out and inspire
other students. The LAE also performs for charitable events, including
St. Jude's, Bea's Kids, Allie's House. The LAE is also available for
private parties, weddings, quinceaneras, concerts, etc.
