Booker T. Washington High School's Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers to provide valuable support, services, and programs to the BTWHS community. The PTSA works to promote the welfare of our students in our homes, school, and community. Research shows that parents need to be partners in their children's education, from pre-school right up through the high school years. At BTWHSPVA, the PTSA is working to serve as that essential link to keep you in touch and informed about our school. For more information on Membership click here. Booker T. Washington High School's PTSA is a local unit of the National PTA and Texas PTA. Our goal is to have every parent/family/ and student belong to our organization. To join our PTSA, sign up at registration or you can download the sign-up form on page 2 on the "Join the PTSA" website page. Contact our Membership chair, Adrian Alexander, aalexa@sbcglobal.net with any questions you may have. Elected Officers and the PTSA BoardElected officers and appointed Executive Board members provide leadership for the PTSA. The PTSA will advertise for people to fill next year's Board at the March meeting. The Nominating Committee will present a slate of officers to the PTSA in April and an election will be held at the PTSA meeting in May. Officers other than the Parliamentarian and the Historian shall be elected. Officers may serve no more than two consecutive terms for the same position. If you are interested in joining the board or being a part of the Nominating Committee, contact the Volunteer Coordinator. *For a listing of Board Members click here. PTSA MeetingsThe PTSA usually meets on the second Monday of the month, and generally, meetings are held in the BTWHS Cafeteria at 7:00 pm, but due to scheduling conflicts, a couple of our monthly meetings will vary in days or times. Meetings are informal but structured, and last approximately one or one and a half hours. Topics vary but usually include announcements and an update from the school Principal. Members have a chance to ask Tracie Fraley, our Principal, about school issues in a public forum. Often, cluster coordinators are asked to brief parents on events and news within their specific clusters. Cluster specific performances and demonstrations have been known to happen. Meetings are a great way to meet other parents and to stay informed first hand. Support PTSAThe PTSA relies on membership dues, local sponsors and fundraising events for it's many programs throughout the year. We have one large fundraiser a year and this year, on March 6, 2010, we will have the 1st ANNUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP GALA, geared more for parents, friends, family and supporters of Booker T. Washington in the community. The former event, TOTA, Taste of the Arts, will still happen, but as a student-driven performance venue, sponsored by the school. We thank you for supporting the many special activities that benefit our students, teachers, and the school! |
