Booker T. Washington High School's Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers to provide valuable support, services, and programs to the BTWHS community. The PTSA works to promote the welfare of our students in our homes, school, and community.

Research shows that parents need to be partners in their children's education, from pre-school right up through the high school years. At BTWHSPVA, the PTSA is working to serve as that essential link to keep you in touch and informed about our school.

Booker T. Washington High School's PTSA is a local unit of the National PTA and Texas PTA. We have approximately 700 members and counting - thanks to the efforts of the PTSA Membership Committee! Contact our Membership chair, Adrian Alexander, aalexa@sbcglobal.net, with any questions.

Elected Officers and the PTSA Board

Elected officers and appointed Executive Board members provide leadership for the PTSA. The PTSA Nominating Committee presents a slate of officers to the PTSA in April and an election is held at the PTSA meeting in May. Officers other than the Parlimentarian and the Historian shall be elected. Officers may serve no more than two consecutive terms for the same position. If you are interested in joining the board or being a part of the nominating committee, contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

PTSA Meetings

The PTSA meets on the second Monday of the month. Generally meetings are held in the BTWHS Cafeteria at 7:00pm. Meetings are informal but structured, and generally last about one hour. Topics vary but usually include announcements and an update from the school Principal. Members have a chance to ask Tracie Fraley, our Principal, about school issues in a public forum. Often, cluster coordinators are asked to brief parents on events and news within their specific clusters. Cluster specific performances and demonstrations have been known to happen. Other programs may include TAKS and SAT testing information invaluable to BTWHS parents and students. Plus meetings are a great way to meet other parents and to stay informed first hand.

Support PTSA

The PTSA relies on memberships, local sponsors and fundraising events to fund its many programs and projects throughout the year.

We have one large fundraiser called Taste of the Arts. Please click here to find out more about TOTA.

If you would like to send a check, take a tax deduction, and enjoy the knowledge that you're supporting many special activities that benefit our students, teachers, and the school, contact Harolde Savoy with the PTSA.
